Ring Doorbell Button Cracked. Can it be replaced?

Ring doorbell buttons cannot be replaced. If the Ring button is broken, the entire doorbell needs to be replaced. Ring Warranty is 1-year for replacement. Contact Ring customer service for help.

Check to determine whether your Ring doorbell is still under warranty if the button is cracked. I’ve also included information on what might have caused your doorbell button to crack, so you don’t have to deal with this issue with your replacement doorbell.

Ring Doorbell Button Cannot Be Replaced

Because the Ring doorbell button is made of plastic, it is prone to cracking. A cracked Ring doorbell button, unfortunately, cannot be replaced. According to posts on various online forums,  all versions of Ring doorbells are susceptible to this issue.

So, click here to contact Ring customer service about replacing your doorbell.

Ring Doorbell Warranty

Ring doorbells come with a one-year limited warranty. If your ring doorbell is still under warranty with the button cracks, Ring may send you a replacement doorbell for free.

Replacement doorbells also have a one-year warranty. Click here for details about Ring’s warranty.

If you are out of warranty, your best bet is probably to consider the new Nest Hello or the Ring 3. (If you want Pre-Roll (when it captures things on camera a few seconds ahead of time), get the Ring 3, and if you want better smart home integration, get the Nest Hello.).

While your subscription is active, Ring’s Protect Plus subscription plan also includes a warranty for all of your Ring devices. So, Protect Plus plans can be paid monthly or annually and do not require a contract. In order to qualify for the extended warranty, your doorbell must still be under the one-year limited warranty when you sign up for Protect Plus.

Potential Causes of a Cracked Button

Some Smart Ring Doorbell owners hypothesize that a cracked doorbell button is caused by sun exposure. Anyway, Ring has not confirmed this.

Another reason for a cracked button can be a Ring design flaw. This means that the normal use of your doorbell may cause it to crack. The frequency and force with which the doorbell is pressed determine the likelihood of this happening.

If you have a nanny or a dog walker who knocks on your doorbell on a regular basis, consider using a different method to provide them access to your home. As an example, if you have a Ring compatible smart lock, you can give this trusted person their own unique access code to enter your home.

Click here to purchase the Ring doorbell-compatible smart lock. If you have a Smart Ring Alarm, there are many other compatible smart lock options. Here is the complete list of “Works With Ring” smart locks. The ring has confirmed plans for these smart locks to be compatible with Smart Ring doorbells in the future.

Using Ring Doorbell With a Cracked Button

If your Smart Ring doorbell button is cracked, the rest of the doorbell functions will still work properly. Here’s what you can do with your Smart Ring doorbell without a working button:

    • Receive notifications on your smartphone or tablet when movement is detected.
    • View the doorbell’s live stream.
    • Use two-way audio to talk to someone who is at your front door.
    • Automatically records when movement is detected if you have a Ring subscription plan.
    • View and save doorbell records if you have a Ring subscription plan.

While the doorbell button is helpful, it is not necessary. Whether or not someone rings your doorbell, you will receive a motion detection notification if someone comes to your door. As a result, even if your doorbell button isn’t working, you’ll know when you have a visitor.

Ring Protect Plus

The Protect Plus subscription plan from Ring includes a number of useful features as well as an extended warranty for your Ring devices.

    • Professional monitoring if you have a Smart Ring Alarm
    • Automatic recording of motion detected events
    • Manual recording through live view
    • Cloud service to save videos/records for 60 days
    • Screenshot capture
    • 10% off products purchased at Ring.com

The Basic Protect plan, which is cheaper, does not include the extended warranty, professional monitoring, or a 10% discount.

Protecting Your Ring Doorbell From the Elements

Sun exposure is thought to be the cause of a cracked Ring doorbell button. There are several products available to help protect your Ring doorbell from sun damage if it must be installed in direct sunlight.

Depending on at which angle the sun hits your smart doorbell, this sun visor may help prevent sun damage. You could also use a wedge mount to angle your Ring doorbell down so that the sun doesn’t hit the button directly. Some Smart Ring doorbells come with wedge mounts, and they can also be purchased here. Make sure to choose the wedge mount that fits your version of the Smart Ring doorbell.

While Ring does not provide information on sun exposure, it does provide information on other types of exposure. Although Ring doorbells lack an IP rating, the official weatherproof rating system, the company claims that they can withstand the following types of weather:

    • Heavy rain
    • Strong wind
    • Temperatures between -5 and 120 degrees
