Smart Bulbs for Alexa – You CANNOT Use Any Smart Bulb with Alexa!

Can I use any smart bulb with Alexa?

For some time, you have been able to use Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant, to turn your smart lights on and off. As a result, you have many alternatives when it comes to smart bulb types. With Alexa, you do not have to rewire your house to use voice controls to manage your lights. You just need to purchase smart LED bulbs connected to WiFi or a smart hub that is Amazon’s Echo compatible.

To turn the lighting on or off, you can say “Alexa, turn the lights on” or “Alexa, turn the lights off.” If you can dim your smart bulbs, you can also use your voice to change the color and brightness if the bulbs you purchased support colors!

Here are some suitable smart bulbs for Alexa:

  • TP-Link LB100
  • Cree Connected LED
  • GE Link LED
  • Osram Lightify LED
  • Sylvania Smart Plus LEDs
  • Nanoleaf Ivy
  • Nanoleaf Aurora
  • Eufy Lumos LED
  • Nanoleaf Square

Can Alexa turn on two lights at once?

It is possible to group light bulbs into one lamp or place them in a room together. You will love the Alexa App’s smart home groups if you are interested in using your voice to manage your lighting. Suppose you have several smart light bulbs with names. These names are handy for identifying and grouping the lights. Yet, these names are terrible for using your Amazon Echo to control the lights with your voice. If you have the option, you’d usually want to control the group of lights rather than control each light separately. In order to help with creating light groups in the Alexa app, that is precisely why you need to have a light group set up in the Alexa app.

Lights like “Lamp 1” and “Lamp 2” can be easily combined into the so-called “Lamps” group to control each light with one voice command. Once the group has been established, you can activate or disable the light, alter the low level, or change the color of the entire lighting group.  E.g.: – lamps to the left and right of the bed could be mentioned. Couch lights on either side. Incorporated lighting specific to a location like a fireplace. Read “how to secure smart bulbs with a few simple steps.” for your safety.

To do this task, you only need two devices;

  • Amazon Echo Device
  • Smart light switches or smart light bulbs
