Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock Review

If you’re looking for a way to enhance security without compromising on convenience, the Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock is a good option. I’ve personally had the chance to try out this versatile 5-in-1 keyless entry solution.

Throughout this review, I’ll highlight the different features of the U-Bolt Smart Lock. Also, share my thoughts on how well it works – both the positives and any areas for improvement.

Features of the Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock

The Ultraloq U-Bolt comes with five versatile features that boost home security. It provides five ways to enter: an anti-peep keypad, smartphone control, auto unlock, shake to open, and a traditional mechanical key.

  • Anti-Peep Keypad

The anti-peep keypad is designed to enhance security. You can enter your access code without revealing the actual digits you press. This way, even if someone is watching, they won’t be able to figure out your code.

  • Smartphone Control

This feature lets you manage your lock using your smartphone. You can lock or unlock your door remotely through the Ultraloq smartphone app. It’s great for granting access to family or services while you’re away.

  • Auto Unlock

The auto unlock senses when you’re nearby with your smartphone, ensuring smooth entry.

  • Shake to Open

Shake to Open lets you shake your smartphone to unlock the door. It’s an extra layer of convenience on top of the user-friendly options.

  • Apple Watch Compatibility

Apple Watch users can control and unlock the Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock from their wrist. This offers increased accessibility and convenience.

  • Mechanical Key

The smart lock has a physical key for traditional users. It’s a backup if keypad or phone fails.

  • Ultraloq U-Bolt Bridge

If you want to control the lock remotely, the Ultraloq Bridge is available separately. With it, you can lock/unlock, share access, and monitor activity via the app from anywhere.

  • Remote Access Sharing

The Ultraloq app enables remote sharing of eKeys and codes for family, guests, or service people. Access can be ongoing or for specific times.

  • Voice Control

The smart lock seamlessly integrates with voice assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing voice control for effortless smart home use.

  • SmartThings and IFTTT Compatibility

The Ultraloq U-Bolt works with SmartThings and IFTTT. This gives you more ways to connect and customize.

Design and Build Quality of the Ultraloq U-Bolt

The Ultraloq U-Bolt combines modern design and durability in a compact 2.95 x 2.95 x 0.98 inches. Its solid zinc build, sleek black finish, and brushed texture provide security with style. The rectangular shape suits various doors and weighs at 2.75 pounds.

While the Ultraloq U-Bolt has its perks, there are a few drawbacks. Setting up and integrating the app might be tricky for less tech-savvy folks. Also, remember to double-check if the lock fits with your specific smart home system.

Installation Process of the Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock

Setting up smart home tech can sometimes be a headache, but not with the Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock. The package includes all installation essentials: interior and exterior assembly, mounting components, backup key, batteries, reset needle, drill template, user guide, and bridge (optional).

Installing the Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock: A Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Getting the Door Ready

Check your door’s size. Measure to ensure it’s between 1 3/8″ – 1 3/4″ (35mm – 45mm) thick.

Step 2: Adding the Bolt and Strike

Install the bolt into your door with the UP icon facing up. For adjustments, pull the bolt, press, twist, and set your desired length. Attach the strike to the bolt frame.

Step 3: Placing the Exterior Assembly

Keep the bolt pulled back and the cylinder tailpiece level. Align the exterior assembly sticks with the bolt holes during installation. Thread the cable through the lower hole. Avoid using the mechanical key at this stage.

Step 4: Fixing the Interior Assembly Mounting Plate

Thread the cable through the hole on the interior assembly mounting plate. Attach this plate to the exterior assembly using screws.

Step 5: Installing the Interior Assembly

Open the battery cover of the interior assembly. Plug the cable into the socket on the interior assembly, pressing it in firmly. Turn the knob up to keep it unlocked. Attach the inside assembly to the mounting plate and tighten the screws.

Step 6: Adding Batteries and Adjusting Door Orientation

This helps the lock know your door’s direction, which matters for its function. Turn the knob to lock it, add four AA batteries, and close the cover.

You’re all set – your U-Bolt Smart Lock is installed and good to go.

Compatibility of The Ultraloq U-Bolt with your Existing Lock

Rest easy about your door – the Ultraloq U-Bolt smart lock suits typical US doors, left or right opening. For a lock replacement, a basic screwdriver is all you need.

While the U-Bolt suits most standard doors, it may not fit unique ones. Also, check how well it fits with your specific smart home setup. If you need help with DIY tasks, you might want a helping hand with the installation.

Battery Life and Maintenance of The Ultraloq U-Bolt

In my experience, the Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock has a strong battery life. Thanks to smart technology, four AA batteries last up to a year with around 8,000 uses

The app alerts you about low battery, preventing lockouts. Although they last, remember to change the batteries eventually.

The Ultraloq U-Bolt Security

The Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock is ANSI Commercial Grade 1 certified. It’s super strong, 35 times more than regular locks, and lasts seven times longer. Furthermore, it handles dust and weather like a champ.

Keep in mind, the ANSI Commercial Grade 1 certification is more for businesses. Therefore, give it regular care for consistent performance.

Pricing of the Ultraloq U-Bolt

The Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock offers top security and convenience without the hefty price of other smart locks. It’s a budget-friendly upgrade with a 5-in-1 keyless system.

Pros:

  • Multiple entry options
  • Budget-friendly
  • Easy DIY installation
  • Long battery life

Cons:

  • The bridge is sold separately
  • It relies solely on battery power

Conclusion

The Ultraloq U-Bolt Smart Lock artfully combines convenience and security. The variety of access options, remote control, strong security, and simple setup truly enhanced my home. It’s more than just locking doors; it’s about feeling safer.

However, some features might come separately, like the bridge for remote access.
